Make up to 10kg of homemade tempeh with 25g of this high-quality tempeh starter culture!

Discover one of the most rewarding fermentations by making your own tempeh mycelium from this Rhizopus oryzae tempeh culture.

Finding a good tempeh starter in Canada used to be hard, but not anymore!

Tempeh, a traditional Indonesian food, is traditionally prepared from soybeans fermented by a microscopic fungus.

The result is a plant-based protein rich in fibre, low in fat, with a delicious taste of hazelnuts and mushrooms. Tempeh can be made from any type of legume: beans, peas, broad beans, chickpeas, lentils... It's time to explore!

Check out our tempeh recipe to learn how to make your own tempeh.

Perfection on the first try!

I followed the tempeh instructions from Revolution Fermentation , and I used this starter culture. The outcome is stellar. I made a chick pea, kamut, and sesame and sunflower tempeh. Thank you.

Learning experience

I had a few rough starts with this starter but after contacting the friendly helpful people at Fermentation Revolution I was able to make a great batch of tempeh. They responded with insightful questions and helped me troubleshoot. I did find I needed a bit more of the spores than the instructions indicated but was happy with my results.

Excellent

I bought this and have used it twice with my new proofer. It worked perfectly. The instruction videos are very helpful too. Homemade tempeh is so much more delicious.
